About the position:

The electrical design engineer is responsible for the design, prototyping, and testing of robotic equipment. You will have constant hands on opportunities and be responsible for designs from concept to deployment. This role is part of a small, highly motivated, and collaborative team developing new technology and creating products.

Essential duties include:

  • Take a project from scoping requirements through product deployment
  • Design and manufacture of prototype and product PCBAs
  • Troubleshoot embedded systems using schematics, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Work closely with firmware, hardware, and software teams to optimize systems
  • Manage and prioritize personal workload
  • Communicate and interact with interdisciplinary engineering team to develop software requirements/specifications
  • Analyze and provide feedback during design reviews for own work and work of peers
  • Maintain accurate records throughout the development process in order to comply with company and industry standards and/or regulations
  • Evaluate, test, and review designs to determine if designs will perform according to requirements and specifications

Required skills, expertise, and availability:

  • The ability to take command of a project or task, anticipate next steps, and ask good questions
  • Excels working in fast-paced startup environment with dynamic design constraints
  • Detail oriented
  • Self-motivated continuous learner
  • Experience engaging in multidisciplinary projects and communicating with engineers from other disciplines
  • Experience taking ownership of a project or task and ensuring successful and timely completion
  • Experience in mixed signal design for sensing and actuation applications
  • Experience with microcontroller peripherals and communication busses (SPI, I2C)
  • Experience with schematic capture and layout in Altium, Eagle, or similar software
  • Experience with switching power supply topologies
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Available to work 40 hours/week in San Luis Obispo, CA

Desired skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with sensor noise and signal integrity considerations
  • Knowledge of real-time control systems is strongly preferred
  • Experience with embedded firmware
